Door Devil Poll Reveals Critical Home Security Gap for 2014

Concord, NC (PRWEB) February 27, 2014

“Every home needs it, but no home has it.” That was the conclusion drawn from a Door Devil poll of Professional Locksmiths at the North Carolina Locksmith Association’s (NCLA) 2014 Trade show in Charlotte, NC when asked about doorway reinforcement.

Locksmiths were asked (2) questions:

Q1: Do you Agree or Disagree… [despite the deadbolt quality] a doorway without doorframe reinforcement will be defeated in 3 kicks or less?

A1: 100% (89 of 89) AGREED the doorframe would be destroyed.

Q2: In your experience, do ‘More or Less than 10%’ have adequate doorframe reinforcement?

A2: 99% (88 of 89) answered “Less than 10%”.

The results clearly indicate that homeowners continue to remain unaware of the vulnerability that exists in their doorways. When burglars start working an area, the phone starts ringing for local locksmiths. George Fogle (Fogle Lock & Key) noted, “Many customers believe that their doors are secure because they have a high-quality deadbolt installed.” Until they reinforce the doorframe “they are not maximizing their protection.”

“The lack of doorframe reinforcement is like a (-1) in a mathematic equation,” according to Door Devil owner Nick Fairless. “It doesn’t matter how much you invest in your deadbolt – if you don’t upgrade your doorframe – the result will be bad. Criminals can blow through the standard residential door in 1 or 2 kicks.”

The old method of doorframe reinforcement simply called for the replacement of the (2) short factory screws in the deadbolt plate with longer screws. While this method will improve the strength of the doorway to a small degree, the force of the kick remains focused on a very small section of the door. As a result, this should be considered woefully inadequate protection.

The Society Of Professional Locksmiths (SOPL) – a leading National Locksmith Trade Organization – recently added “doorframe reinforcement” to its continuing education curriculum.

SOPL Founder Tom Lynch noted “SOPL prides itself on ensuring its members are trained and aware of the most current technology and security products. Our number one priority is to provide maximum security for our customers. Properly reinforcing the doorframe is critical to accomplishing that objective.”

The new generation of door security products include a 48″ steel striker plate. The longer striker plate diffuses the force of the kick across four feet of the doorframe and significantly increases the strength of the doorway.

With products such as Door Devil, Door Jamb Armor and StrikeMaster, Locksmiths and homeowners have a simple, affordable and effective new weapon to combat the #1 method of entry for burglars. As a result, bad guys can expect to encounter many more fortified doorframes in 2014.

UK Household Crime Drops By 10% But Home Owners Still Need To Rethink Security

Birmingham, West Midlands (PRWEB UK) 6 February 2014

With more people fitting conservatories and extensions, the standard European cylinder locks could leave them vulnerable to break ins. Cylinder snapping is a process that requires no specialist tools or prior knowledge, but is a simple way for burglars to gain access to your property. As the weakest point in the door, once this is component is compromised, all locking points in this door are rendered useless.

Mark Gibbins, owner of Chubb Locksmith said: “When people invest in UPVC doors, they expect a certain level of security to come as standard. Unfortunately, most of these types of door are fitted with European cylinders which could leave them vulnerable to burglars and potentially compromise the security of their home.”

One way home owners can protect themselves is to invest in high performance products with a break secure cylinder. Bump keys are a widely available and a useful locksmith tool that can help on call-outs, but unfortunately, as they can be mis-used by criminals in order to break into a property.

Lock bumping is a proven technique in the locksmith trade. It helps you help your customer in their ‘hour of need’, but more and more burglars are getting wise to this technique and using it for criminal activities and it shows no sign of forced entry.

“One way of tackling this problem is to fit a break secure cylinder where you would normally find your European cylinder. We recommend the MUL-T-LOCK system to our customers who are concerned about burglars gaining unauthorised entry to their property. When a break secure cylinder is tampered with, it can still provide a level of security for your office or home. Another plus is that you only need one set of keys for any doors in your house fitted with this system,” Mr Gibbins concluded.

OnGARD Security Door Brace to Protect Homes From Door Kick-Ins and Violent Burglaries Reaches Record Number of Sales

(PRWEB) January 21, 2014

The OnGARD Security Door Brace, one of Global Security Experts Inc’s most popular home security products, has sold out at a record rate, prompting the company to create a VIP Waiting List to meet the overwhelming demand. Since the VIP Waiting List’s inception in October 2013, more than 3,500 households have signed-up to purchase the OnGARD Security Door Brace at the special discounted price of $ 99.00 dollars.

Factories are working 24 hours a day seven days a week to replenish inventory of the OnGARD Security Door Brace, according to Global Security Experts founder Jordan Frankel.

“Our team is working around the clock to get this popular product to everyone on our VIP Waiting List,” Frankel said. “We were astonished when the Security Door Brace sold out so quickly, and we are excited to have it back in stock soon. This OnGARD door brace has a proven track record of preventing door kick-ins, keeping the homeowner safe and secure from violent criminals.”

Professionals in the home security and locksmith industries, including Tom Lynch of the Society of Professional Locksmiths (SOPL), have praised the OnGARD Security Door Brace.

“The OnGARD Security Door Brace is by far strongest and easiest device of its kind to install,” Lynch said. “I’ve definitely seen less expensive devices, however during our testing we discovered most were easily defeated from the outside of the dwelling with a thin piece of metal commonly known as a Slim Jim.”

Unfortunately, as Lynch noted, the majority of home security devices available to the everyday citizen only serve as psychological deterrents. But the OnGARD Security Door Brace is different. The OnGARD is the only door brace on the consumer market that is certified and tested by an independent laboratory to withstand up to 1,800 lbs. of violent force, meaning it can withstand door kick-ins, sledgehammers, battering rams and other tools commonly used by criminals.

Even most home security alarm systems are no match for the OnGARD door brace. For instance, when an alarm sounds, there is still plenty of time for a burglar to break down a door and burglarize the house before law enforcement officials arrive on the scene. With the use of the OnGARD Security Door Brace, burglars never have the opportunity to get through the door.

The revolutionary OnGARD Security Door Brace, which spent five years in development, has a unique two-piece design that utilizes the strength of an existing floor as well as a space age polymer – the same material used in military fighter planes. The door brace can be installed on most wood, concrete or tile floors.

To be put on the VIP Waiting List for the OnGARD Security Door Brace for the discounted price of $ 99, please visit http://www.globalsecurityexperts.com/products/security-door-brace.html.

Dallas Park Cities Pet Sitter Provides Pet Owners a Checklist of How to Ensure Their Pets Receive the Best Care While Their Owners Travel for the Holidays

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) November 26, 2013

The week of Thanksgiving signals the start of the busiest time of year for pet sitting companies all over the country; a busy season that usually lasts through the first week of January. During this 7-week period, many pet sitting companies double the amount of visits that they do compared to other times of year. Ensuring a smooth holiday for pet sitters, pet owners, and pets alike starts with ensuring each pet sitter has all of the information they need from pet owners to provide the best pet care possible during this busy season.

Park Cities Pet Sitter, Inc. has been in the pet sitting business for over 20 years, and thus has experienced many voluminous holidays throughout their company’s history. This experience has led them to create a holiday checklist that they like to reinforce with their clients and their pet sitters before the busy holidays begin, to minimize any surprises or stressors during this time. Park Cities Pet Sitter President, Joette White, feels these reminders are critical to keeping clients happy because she knows they are likely busy with a lot of holiday details, and they may forget to do a few of the necessities to help ensure their pets and homes are well cared for while they are away. “Everyone gets caught up in the packing, shopping, hustle, and bustle of the holidays,” said Ms. White. “But it’s important to stop for a moment, preferably a day or two before you leave town, and go through the checklist of things that your pet and pet sitter will need while you are away. Doing so will make everyone involved happier, and less stressed during this busy time.”

The following are some of the points that Park Cities Pet Sitter emphasizes to ensure everyone’s pets receive the best care possible during the holidays:

1.    Make sure there is plenty of food, medication (if applicable), and litter for your pets. Assume that your travel plans might change due to factors beyond your control (like bad weather), so leaving extra pet food, medication, and litter for your pet sitter will save your pet sitter from having to make a special shopping trip.

2.    Put food, medication, litter, collars, harnesses, and leashes in an easy-to-find location for your pet sitter. If you already have a primary location for all of your pet goodies that your pet sitter knows, then great! But if you have moved the regular location for these items, or do not keep them in any one particular spot, please make sure all of these items are in an extremely easy location to find so that your sitter doesn’t have to spend a lot of time looking for these items when they arrive at your home.

3.    If you have an alarm in your home, activate it when you leave, and make sure your pet sitter knows how to arm/disarm it. Potential thieves know the holidays are a good time to find empty homes, so take any precautions you can to make sure your home is not targeted.

4.    Double check all doors and windows in your home prior to leaving town to ensure they are closed and locked properly. Not only will this deter potential thieves, but it will prevent potential house damage from rain or snow getting inside your home inadvertently.

5.    Make sure all keys have been tested prior to giving them to your pet sitter. Key copying unfortunately is not an exact science, and this could mean that a copied key might not work in the door it is intended to open. Finding a locksmith over the holidays will be difficult and expensive, so testing keys prior to giving them to your pet sitter is essential.

6.    Make sure all contact telephone numbers your pet sitter has are up-to-date, and include a land line telephone number for where you will be staying while out of town. Holiday plans often include ski resorts and out-of-the-country destinations where cellular phones don’t work well, or where owners don’t have cellular coverage. Even places you travel that have good cellular coverage can be problematic if your phone battery dies at an inopportune time, or you forget to pack your cell phone charger in your suitcase. This is why having a backup land line telephone number to reach you in an emergency is so important.

7.    Keep old towels readily available for your pet sitter. Because Thanksgiving and Christmas fall during the winter season, many areas of the country experience rain and snow during the holidays, which often means wet and muddy paws. Keeping old towels readily available will allow your pet sitter to wipe off paws before coming inside, and allow you to come home to a clean house.

8.    Alert the pet sitting company main office as soon as you are aware of potential schedule changes. It is not unusual for a holiday trip to be extended or shortened. As soon as you are aware of any schedule changes, call your pet sitting company to let them know. Your pet sitter will appreciate the advanced notice, and can rearrange their schedule if necessary to accommodate your changes.

Following this checklist prior to leaving on an out-of-town holiday trip should eliminate the most commonly “forgotten” items by busy pet owners. Pet sitters everywhere will be grateful for the attention paid to these important details, and pet owners will be more likely to have a stress-free holiday knowing that their pets and homes are being well cared for in their absence.

Park Cities Pet Sitter, Inc. has served the Dallas area 7 days a week, 365 days a year since 1992. Pet sitting, daily dog walks, pet taxis, overnight sitting, pet supply shopping, litter box cleaning and dog training are all part of the services PCPSI offers. Park Cities Pet Sitter is bonded and insured, and all sitters are employees–not independent contractors. A manager is on-call 24 hours a day.
